Annual Damascus Gentlemans Ltd 2008 112008DAM
Boker® has created a very special piece for their 2008 Annual Damascus Series folder. It is a liner locking gentleman's knife designed by well-known Austrian knifemaker Stefan Gobec. If you are looking for a truly rare and unique piece of work, this one is a must for your collection. The Leo-Damascus, a high performance steel, was made available to Boker through a noted European Damascus forger, Markus Balbach. This particular steel was forged out of the barrel of the German battle tank Leopard I, thus the name Leo Damascus. This specialty steel is not available on the market and there is no material number even assigned to it because it is only used by the military. Herr Balbach was fortunate to acquire some of it for Boker exclusively.
A chromium-manganese and vanadium tool steel alloy was added to this extremely wear resistant barrel steel. The result is a remarkably high hardness for Damascus steel (63-65HRC). The pattern provided on the blade is labeled "small pyramid" providing a spectacular work of art and, as with all true Damascus, every blade is different..
Each knife includes a certificate of authenticity and gift box. Serialized.
The 2-3/4" drop point blade is made of a 300 layer Damascus hand forged by Boker's bladesmith in the Small Pyramid pattern. For the bolsters Boker chose a powder-metal stainless Damascus in the Small Roses pattern. That same material is used for the handle spacer at the butt of the handle.
The handles are Irish "Bog Oak". This oak tree fell into an encroaching bog about 3,000 or more years ago. The heavily acid water and the peat kept the air and decay from the wood until it was recently pulled from the bog. This richly historical and beautiful wood has been in strong demand for fine furniture and Boker was able to acquire only a small amount for a few exceptional pocketknives. Each knife is individually serial numbered and includes a beautiful wooden collectors box and a certificate of authenticity. Measures 3-7/8" closed and weighs 4.0 oz. Made in Germany. Suggested retail is $799.00.
